Llechwedd Becomes First Major Welsh Attraction to Offer Boutique Hotel Accommodation for Visitors to North Wales
8th MarLlechwedd has been known for many years as the #1 activity destination in North Wales – no easy feat for a region brimming with incredible things to do.
As well as Llechwedd’s own ‘Slate Mountain Adventure’ (a three-hour 4×4 truck and deep mine experience) which earned the 2019/2020 Go North Wales Attraction of the Year award, the 2,000-acre site is also home to Zip World’s Titan; the longest zip course in Europe, Bounce Below; the world’s ONLY underground trampoline course, and ‘Caverns’, an incredibly challenging underground zip assault course you have to see to believe. There’s even a downhill mountain biking centre the match of any bike course in the world!
Just in time for 2021, Llechwedd is now proud to become the FIRST major adventure attraction in Wales to offer high-quality accommodation as part of its package.
Steeped in the rich history of the quarry and the original home of John Whitehead Greaves (founder of Llechwedd, some 180 years ago), Plas Weunydd is a 24-bedroom boutique hotel – focused on family and adventure but with a quality suitable for the most discerning traveller.
Plas Weunydd opens its 24 rooms to the public this Easter, and is the latest accommodation development at this truly unique location and follows on from the highly popular five-star Llechwedd Glamping site, which itself holds Visit Wales Gold status.
Alongside the luxurious en-suite rooms and boutique feel, Plas Weunydd offers an informal and relaxed bar and dining space making it the perfect place for sitting back and watching the world zip by after a day out exploring Snowdonia.
Alastair Altham, Chairman of Llechwedd and a direct descendant of the founder of the mine in 1836 said. “We were so lucky to have the most perfect building for the creation of a hotel, it’s the old house that my forebears used to live in when they visited the mine all those years ago – every room is different and we set out with the simple objective – creating a really comfortable and stylish place to stay that would exceed the expectations of any of our 200,000 annual visitors. We are thrilled with the results!
“Llechwedd is also a central part of the ongoing bid to see the North Wales slate industry given World Heritage Status – making Plas Weunydd a potential UNESCO designated building on its own and an even more special place to stay!”
Plas Weunydd is perfectly situated not only to experience everything Llechwedd has to offer, but also as a base for adventuring further into Snowdonia and North Wales – a region that is at the very top of everyone’s staycation plans for 2021. The breath-taking mountain ranges, beautiful blue flag beaches, castles and countless other attractions are just minutes from the front door of this incredible accommodation experience.
