All aboard the Bala Lake Railway! Join us to for an accessible family and dog friendly way to savour the magnificent scenery of Southern Snowdonia. Our historic narrow-gauge steam trains run along the shores of Wales’ largest lake, between Llanuwchllyn and Bala, offering stunning views across the lake to the nearby Arennig and Aran mountains.

You don’t have to ride on the railway to stop for a cuppa and a slice of cake in our homely station café at Llanuwchllyn. You’re welcome to drop in on our signal box, here since 1896, where the signal man will be only too happy to show you how it works.

Our new Heritage Centre is now open and is the ideal place to learn about the fascinating history of our steam engines and the slate quarries they originally served. This also makes us a great venue for school and group trips in the Snowdonia National Park. There’s free parking at Llanuwchllyn station, and roadside parking at Bala.

Look out for our special events at Easter, Halloween and before Christmas. Alternatively, enjoy a day out with Alice (our celebrity engine which features in her own book) or try one of our evening excursions, where we serve a selection of light bites; from Jacket Potatoes and Fish and Chips to the occasional summer Barbecue.
