Llanberis Lake Railway

Situated just a few minutes’ walk from the foot of the Snowdon Mountain Railway, in the heart of the town of Llanberis, you will find the Llanberis Lake Railway. We’re one of ‘The Great Little Trains of Wales’ offering a scenic trip along Padarn Lake to Penllyn.

Llanberis Lake Railway has deep roots in the history of North Wales through the hauling of slate from the quarries by our now lovingly restored Hunslet Steam Engines. Young and old will enjoy the breath-taking scenery of Snowdonia from your seat aboard our vintage narrow-gauge steam trains.

Enjoy the train ride from the main station at Gilfach Ddu on Padarn Park, in to Llanberis and then on to Penllyn at the head of the lake. On the return journey, get off at tranquil Cei Llydan and take in the picturesque lakeside scenery. Visit Wales chose this spot as one of the country’s top ten places for a picnic, combining “the fun of an old-fashioned picnic with the romance of a ride on a vintage train”.

We have a shop and Café, we’re accessible and dog friendly and are especially well suited to groups and school parties. Our proximity to Snowdon makes us an ideal attraction to include in your Snowdonia 360 itinerary.
